Barranco is the pretty, residential area of Lima crammed with desirable shops, restaurants and bars.
Not only is everything pastel-coloured perfection but it is an idyllic place to curl up with a book and lose yourself for hours. While a very attractive Starbucks lines the main square, why not give your business to local cafes?
I spent four days in Barranco doing pretty much nothing else other than scoping out the ideal places to sit leisurely and enjoy some good coffee. These are, in my humble opinion, the best cafes in Barranco.
For the best cup of coffee…
Camerino Caffe offers plush decor mixed with delicious coffee. The dark blue walls, chandeliers and bright coloured cushions make it a modern cafe with food, juice and ice-cream also available.
Surprisingly quiet during the day (I get the feeling it is relatively new), it’s possible to grab a seat next to the window and take several quiet hours here people watching.
For the comfiest interiors…
Sofa Cafe wins hands down in terms of comfort, as the name would likely denote.
With a variety of seats to choose from, this cafe makes a MEAN vanilla cappuccino and with speedy Wi-Fi it’s a great place to get some work done.
For the best treats…
La Panetteria is packed pretty much all the time which is not surprising when you check out the cakes and treats they have on offer.
They are so popular it looks like they are making plans to move into a bigger shop across the street. The sandwiches are delicious but if you head here be sure to have the chocolate brownie. Topped with chocolate icing, it might be one of the best brownies of my life.
Oh, and the coffee is good too.
For the Instagram…
Pan Sal Aire is a solid brunch location but also offers fantastic ground coffee in a laidback setting. With geometric floors, blue chairs and plants hanging from shelves lined with pretty coffee table books, this place makes for a great photo.
And the food. Whether you go for gnocchi, eggs benedict or the flatbreads, you are in for a treat.
For the perfect takeaway coffee…
Twins Cafe GF, aptly named as it was opened by twins from Lima, is the perfect location for a quick coffee on the go.
It may not have the plush interiors of cafes listed above but the coffee is excellent so its the perfect stop before a day of sightseeing. Don’t forget to bring your own cup if you have one (save the planet and all that).
